Where is the Festival?

The festival venue is Roundhay Park, Princes Avenue, Leeds, LS8 2ER. The correct entrance for the festival is the Rose Gardens entrance on Princes Avenue.

What can you do at the festival?

This year's Christmas themed Lantern Festival will illuminate Roundhay Park turning it into a spectacular fusion of dual culture, vibrant colours and artistic sculptures! Prepare to enter a magical experience and discover life-sized and large-than-life lanterns in all shapes and forms, from 'Polar Bears on Ice' to a magnificent giant 'Chinese Temple of Heaven' lantern recreation.  

We promise visitors a truly amazing experience, a visual feast of light and illumination, hidden amongst the grandeur of Europe's largest city park, which lends itself perfectly to the layout of the lanterns with its combination of lakes, woodland, gardens and pathways.

The festival will not only wow visitors with its beautiful hand-sculpted lanterns, the entertainment area adds another dimension to this wonderful night out with a food and drink area, bar, Santa's Grotto, handful of fairground rides for children and merhandise marquee where visitors can buy a souvenir of their experience to take home. The festival is open from 5pm to 10pm with last entry at 9pm.

There really is no better family-friendly festival to visit this Christmas.....

What are the festival open dates and times?

Festival is open from the 24th November 2017 to 1st January 2018

Open Wednesday to Sunday each week (open every day from 14th December and only closed on Xmas Eve and Xmas Day).

Ticketed entry slots every 15 minutes from 5.00pm with last entry at 9.00pm. Please arrive 15 minutes before your chosen entry time.

Where can I buy tickets?

You can purchase tickets online or at the event on the day of your visit. We recommend you purchase tickets online as we cannot guarantee that tickets will be available at the event on the day. Online tickets can be purchased through our website or on Eventbrite.

What is an Adult Ticket?

An adult ticket is valid for visitor aged 16 to 64 years old.

What is a Child Ticket?

A child ticket is valid for visitors aged 4 to 15 years old. Children aged 3 or under do not need a ticket to enter.

What is a Concessions Ticket?

A concessions ticket is valid for visitors aged 65 or older, with a disability, on unemployment benefits & student of all ages. Proof may be required at the entrance of the event (e.g. Driver’s License, DLA & student card).

What are Family Tickets?

A Family ticket is valid for 4 people only. A Family tickets is valid for 2 Adults + 2 Children or 1 Adult + 3 Children. Children aged 3 or under do not need a ticket to visit the event. A minimum purchase of 4 tickets is required.

What are Group Tickets?

Group tickets are valid for groups of 10 visitors or more (irrespective of age). Visitors aged 3 or under do not need a ticket to enter. A minimum purchase of 10 tickets is required.

Do you offer any discount for disabled visitors?

Disabled visitors should buy Concessions tickets, unless they are part of a Family or Group tickets.

Do I need to buy a ticket for my child?

Children aged 3 or under do not need a ticket to enter.

Do you offer any discounts for carers?

We offer registered carers free entry into our event as long as they are accompanying their dependent.You can obtain your free carer ticket during the process of purchasing a Concession or Child tickets for the dependent. During the purchase enter the code CARER in the top right hand corner, in blue text is says “Enter Promotional Code”. Only 1 Carer ticket can be purchased per transaction. Should you wish to purchase more than 1 carer ticket, please perform multiple purchases.

Is the route accessible for wheelchair users?

The route has been carefully chosen so as to maximize accessibility to wheelchair users. That said, please be aware that some pathways have uneven flooring or steep gradients as we will be hosting our events in outdoor public parks.

Can I bring amy Dog or Pet?

Assistance dogs will be allowed to enter, but no other pets will be allowed to enter the event.

Can I bring a stroller/pushchair/buggie along?

Yes. That said, we do not have facilities for storing them at the event.

Can I bring children’s scooters/skates/bicycles along?

Children's Scooters/skates/bicycles will not be allowed to enter the event & we do not have facilities for storing these items at the event.

How do I redeem my discount code?

When buying the ticket on our website , you can enter the code on the Eventbrite ticketing page. In the top right corner of the ticket booking screen, there is a blue text, it says “Enter Promotional Code”. Here enter the code you have. Once the tickets have been purchased, we cannot apply the discount retrospectively.

I did not receive my tickets. How can I get them?

Email us at info@magicallantern.uk to inform us that you have not received your tickets. Please include the following information in your email: 1. the full name of the person that purchased the tickets 2. the last four digits of the card that was used to make the payment. 3. The email address where you would like to receive your tickets.

I received some of my tickets, but not all. How can I get them?

Email us at info@magicallantern.uk to inform us that you have not received your tickets. Please include the following information in your email: 1. The order no. 2. the full name of the person that purchased the tickets 3. the last four digits of the card that was used to make the payment. 4. The email address where you would like to receive your missing tickets.

Do I need to print my tickets?

You can print your tickets or show the tickets on your phone to our team at the entrance.

I might arrive a bit earlier/later than the time on my ticket, will I still be able to enter?

We would appreciate if you could arrive at the event at your chosen entry time.

If you are unsure of your current entry time, you will find it at the bottom left of your ticket(s) (the .pdf attachment in the the confirmation email).

What time did I choose to enter when I purchased my ticket?

Information about your preferred entry time is on the bottom left of your ticket(s) (the .pdf attachment in the the confirmation email).

Can I change the time or date of my visit?

As clearly stated on our website and on your tickets, we do not offer the option of changing the date or time of your visit. If you cannot attend, then you can pass your ticket to family or friends as we do not check ID on the door, just scan the tickets through. 

Can I get a refund on my tickets?

How long does it take to walk around the event?

The time it will take you to walk around our event will depend on several factors, including, how fast or slow you walk, much time you spend taking amazing pictures, how much time you spend enjoying the various activities along the route and the size of the park where we host the event. On average, visitors spend 2 to 3 hours in our event.

Can I buy food and drink at the festival?

Mouthwatering international street food and drink  will be on offer at this year’s festival. Along the route there will also be some hot snacks and drinks stalls to keep you warm on your festival route through the park.

What should I wear?

Dress for an evening outdoors in the winter. Visitors are advised to wear warm clothing and suitable footwear. There are no cloakroom facilities at the venue.

Can I get a refund if the weather is really bad?

If severely bad weather occurs and the venue considers it unsafe to open on any specific day, we will close on that day and visitors will be offered an alternative date/time to come before we close on the 1st Jan 2018. No refunds will be offered simply for rain as the festival will still be open. Any decision to cancel the event will be taken by 2pm on the day of an event.

Are filming and photography allowed?
